Florence may well be the capital of Renaissance art, but there is a thriving contemporary scene in the city too. The Serra MK Textile Atelier is a creative oasis that offers you a glimpse into this world.
This two-hour textile printing workshop at La Serra MK Textile Atelier in Florence is not only a unique opportunity to hone your creativity but also invites you to experience the city on a slower, more local level. La Serra MK was founded by Florentine painter, textile and conceptual artist, Margherita Pandolfini, and textile designer, Karl Jorns. The atelier is housed in a light-filled, elegant, 19th-century greenhouse (or “la serra” in Italian) overlooking a hidden garden, just minutes from the Duomo.
Textile printing workshop in the heart of Florence
If you are staying in one of our
luxury villas near Florence, channel your inner creativity in a 2-hour textile printing workshop at La Serra MK Textile Atelier. Under the guidance of Margherita and Karl, you will be invited to try your hand at one textile technique: stencil, silk screen printing or block printing.
Upon arrival, guests will be given a tour of the atelier, complete with warm terracotta floors, vibrant walls covered with mood boards, art supplies and fabric samples, and tranquil views over the garden. Natural dyes and pigments, organic Italian linen and the surrounding natural environment are important aspects of both artists' practice. Margherita and/or Karl will then demonstrate the different textile printing techniques, before inviting you to choose your favourite medium to experiment with, whether silk screen printing, stencil or block printing. Once you have chosen your final design you will then be able to print a tote bag with your artwork to take home with you or, if you prefer, you can bring your textile item with you.
Did someone say aperitivo?
At the end of the workshop, guests are invited to join Margherita and Karl for a light aperitivo (wine and snacks), which is a great opportunity to get to know the artists and their creative philosophy. You can choose from a morning workshop from 10:00am to 12:00pm, or 6:00pm - 8:00pm, finishing just in time for lunch or dinner at a nearby Florentine trattoria. You could even combine this creative practice with a spot of sightseeing in the historic centre. Find out more about
