Preggio, 2.5km/1.5 miles, is a traditional little hill village with an excellent restaurant, caffès and a shop; several other restaurant options are available with a 15-minute drive. Lake Trasimeno offers boating and water sports at Passignano sul Trasimeno, 30 minutes, which is also the ferry terminal for the interesting trip to the lake’s islands. Weekly markets and supermarkets at Umbertide, 20 minutes, or on the lake at Castiglione del Lago, 40 minutes. Perugia, Assisi, Gubbio and Cortona (Tuscany) can all be reached in less than an hour. An excellent railway service connects the nearby Terentola-Cortona station to Siena, Rome and Florence within 1.5 hours. This is excellent walking country: an old Etruscan track passes next to the villa and continues through the forest. Preggio, too, can be reached on foot and there are lovely trails to medieval Castel Rigone, 9km/6 miles, and along the Tiber River near Umbertide.

What a wonderful two weeks staying in your gorgeous villa. We loved our time chilling and swimming poolside in the warmer days. On the cooler days if we were not out sightseeing, chilling in the cosy lounges was just lovely.
Many thanks for all the advice and ‘pin-dropping’ which made our excursions so much easier. The lunch at the farm was a treat, but our dinner cooked by Fiorella was simply outstanding. My blog home daily has had everyone in awe of the beauty of this place and the wonderful views to die for.
We all loved our time at the beautiful Bellona di Sotto and will treasure the memories we have made.

It was wonderful. The hosts were really kind and helpful, giving us lots of suggestions. The house was really comfortable and very clean, and the kitchen well equipped.
The loggia dining space became our social hub area, with the addition lounge seating as well as a large table. And the swimming pool was perfect after doing local walks

We have had a wonderful week at Bellona di Sotto. Beautifully appointed, the house really has the spirit of an Etruscan temple – calming, relaxing, and beautiful. We have done long walks, short walks, using the tracks from the house into the forest. One highlight was walking to Preggio and back! Visits to Montone and the lake (Trasimeno), and lots of book reading and chilling out.
The kitchen was beautifully equipped, allowing us to self-cater with ease, and the loggia became the hub for us all. And, finally, Laurie and Lucia were great hosts, answering our queries quickly, providing local information and great chat :) And the meal at the Agriturismo Bellona restaurant was delicious!

We have had such an amazing week in your beautiful villa. We came for a wedding and have fallen in love with everything to do with this region – the friendliness of the people, the delicious food, the breathtaking scenery, beautiful hillside towns – but the icing on the cake has been coming back to the home comforts of Bellona di Sotto each day. We have treasured the days we have been able to chill around this very special place, sitting by the pool, barbequing in the evenings, spending time with all the family. A very special time. Thanks to Laurie for all his help and advice. We loved the meat from the local butcher! Time has gone so quickly but we will treasure all the happy memories we have made.

The home and outside were wonderful and relaxing and a well-equipped kitchen allowing for some serious cooking. The barbeque a wonder! We had a splendid week here at your homely villa. The pool, the views, and the glorious weather all did their bit to make our stay a happy one. We loved our trips to nearby Montone and Perugia – they will live in the memory. Our day in Siena was truly special – we did the full tour of the of the stunning duomo – and didn’t regret it. We had many great meals, but the best of the bunch was Osteria Le Logge in Siena – what a special place.
Umbria did not disappoint. Wayne enjoyed some epic (cycle) rides This is a great place for hard but rewarding cycling.

You have a beautiful villa here with amazing views. You were so welcoming and never hesitated when we asked for recommendations for places to eat and for the wonderful cakes for my son’s 40th birthday. My three sons and partners joined us from three different continents. A son and grandson and partner from Canada. Another son, his wife and another grandson (3.5 years), granddaughter (13 months) from Australia. Third son and partner from London. Great memories made.

Loved, loved, loved the property ! A bit far out and road not easy to get there, but we had sedans and made it ok. Village close by is Castel Rigone, which had everything you need for shopping. Small grocery store which caters to all likes !!! Pharmacy, café and restaurants close by too.
The house is amazing with great views ! Especially liked the pool area which we used every day.
Need to say a special thank you to our hosts, Lucia and Lori who were always kind and helpful for anything we needed. Lucia even bought us walking sticks to take the trails ! Other tenants will be able to enjoy them as well !
And Fiorella, of course… you must reserve her as a chef at the house ! Wonderful Italian meal for all 8 of us !
All in all, a memorable vacation, loved the house, the views, and proximity to many villages and towns, like Perugia, Montepulciano, Assisi, Cortona, Florence and many others.

I could not have had a more perfect 80th birthday than the one I enjoyed on 31st of August in this lovely villa! What a setting!! A perfect place to get all the family together! We even used the amphitheater for a concert with my grandchildren and daughters in law providing the entertainment. This was followed by a sumptuous dinner laid on by Lucia and Fiorella. A truly idyllic setting to enjoy a fantastic family holiday. We loved our trips to the walled medieval towns of Cortona and Gubbio, both steeped in history and charm. Laurie and Lucia were terrific hosts, so welcoming and charming. The setting was so perfect, Abby and I capped it with a proposal. We can now go home as a newly engaged couple. Dear Laurie and Lucia, thank you for your warm hospitality. We had an amazing time at Bellona di Sotto. All of your recommendations were wonderful, especially the farmhouse Bellona and the cooking class with Fiorella. We enjoyed our many conversations; you are a wealth of knowledge and so very interesting! The pool and surroundings were lovely, and the house was perfect for our group. Thank you Laurie and Lucia! We had the most amazing family holiday in superb surroundings. The house is amazing and there are always new lovely details to notice when drinking your coffee or a glass of wine inside or outside, in the garden or the terrace. The pool has been perfect for our crew – from morning to late evening the kids have been jumping in and enjoying the water. It has been a wonderful two weeks (despite the mixed weather) relaxing after our son’s wedding. The villa is lovely and the views breathtaking! You have to go a long way to find a lovelier setting, and you would have to go a really long way to find a prettier, more authentic villa, which managed to feel like home in just a matter of hours. But no matter how far you went, you’d never find better hosts than Lucia and Lorenzo! We couldn’t be more grateful for all the help you’ve given us and the history you taught us. The cooking lesson with Fiorella was an amazing evening, leaving us with lasting memories and, hopefully, some new skills.

Your home is very beautiful, comfortable and well-appointed and the pool is a fabulous thing to have in this glorious weather. Our other particular favourite feature, you may have noticed (!) is the Umbrian wood-fired grill – used most nights. The lunch at Agriturismo Bellona that you arranged for us was also very special and we felt we had experienced a bit of ‘real’ Italy.

We are all really sad to be leaving this beautiful place. It has been a lovely way to celebrate an 80th birthday. We have visited Florence, Rome, Assisi, Cortona and of course the lake. It has been hard to drag the children away from the pool and we have really enjoyed our evenings putting the World to rights over several bottles of wine on the terrace. Bellona di Sotto is the most attractive villa nestled amongst the beautiful hills of Umbria and with outstanding, even breathtaking, views. It is rustic but very well equipped for a holiday and has many old features which add to its charm. The pool is great and the main attraction in the hot weather. There is a wonderful undercover outdoor eating area overlooking the fantastic views and there is also an excellent barbecue.
It is the perfect place to relax yet within easy distance of villages and only an hour or two from some of the well known towns like Florence and Sienna. However, it is so lovely at the villa it is difficult to tear oneself away to do anything else!
The owners are most welcoming and very helpful with advice on where to visit, restaurants etc. I would highly recommend this villa.

A beautiful and tranquil location; the owner/caretaker couldn't have been more helpful, he also helped us book restaurants and gave us "local knowledge" of where to go and good places to eat. I am very impressed by the service - especially the accuracy of the web site - plenty of photos.
