La Fattoria di Sarteano

We've stayed in a number of villas booked through TN&M over the years. This was our first time staying in the middle of town and our first time visiting outside of the summer. We loved it. We stayed outside Sarteano in 2019 so knew we liked the town, it's obviously less touristy than some others in the region but it has a lovely personality and is warm and welcoming. Being able to go out for an evening meal, enjoy more than a couple of glasses of Vino Nobile di Montelpulciano or a Super Tuscan, and contentedly meander home with full bellies and not worry about driving had always appealed to us. We could just never find the right house at the right time (with a swimming pool). The Fattoria is that villa. It's a sensational, almost ridiculous, property. We were still finding new parts of it on the sixth and seventh day to our absolute incredulity. Getting up in the morning with one of the children to wander across the road to the bakery and be met with ever louder and more friendly greetings from the baker (who provided something free to the child who came every day) was a delight. The rear of the house with the car parking opens up on to the mountains with beautiful vistas. And the little wife and husband run restaurant right next door is a delight. But the real magic is the incongruously small red door at the front of the house that opens up right on to the Corso. Even in October, during a pandemic, it was fantastic to just stroll out and be in the middle of town. To potter past the grizzled old Italian men having an animated discussion about something not very important at all outside the bar, to go in search for gelato for the children only to be told (with great sadness) that it is out of season, to strike out in the car on still autumn days for Montepulciano or a small hike in the mountains but still be home for dinner and a stroll around the town. We received unprecedented care and attention from Allegra, the owner, who was in regular contact and, very kindly, allowed us to stay for an extra night after I realised, halfway through our week, that I had booked our flights home for the Sunday rather than the Saturday. We loved the house all the more for its little quirks. We were just a small group of four people but we agreed, while there, that it is the perfect villa for larger gatherings of family and friends. We had a great visit to Sarteano staying in your stunningly beautiful home. A really comfortable villa with an interesting history and lovely atmosphere. Perfect place to relax with places like Montepulciano, Pienza and Montalcino in easy reach. We were equally happy to “stay home” and enjoy all the villa has to offer. Cinzia cooked us some memorable meals and a highlight of the trip was the tour round the theatre, a real jewel with the excellent Guido as our guide. Visit to the castle was also great. Sarteano itself is a beautiful, friendly town, unspoilt and some very good restaurants (Chiostro Cennini and La Locanda dei Tintori especially good). All in all a wonderful trip and we will definitely return.

We had such a wonderful visit to Sarteano and all the surrounding towns. And then , after the great meals, breathtaking sighs and the help of friendly locals, we came home to the most beautiful house in Tuscany ( okay, we have't seen all of them but still..) we ate dinners on the terrace, cooked in the kitchen and left deeply in cool, quiet bedrooms We found great pace and beauty in La Fattoria. La Fattoria is a charming, unique and sprawling residence which is full of a family's history. The housekeeper, Morena, came each morning to keep things in order around the house and also prepared a lovely meal on the evening of our late arrival. Lucia, the manager and a Sarteano local, gave us lovely recommendations for places to visit and restaurants to try and so much more. We took an amazing wine tasting tour with her and visited the town of Montalcino. Our children swam in the pool daily and loved wandering through the many rooms of this amazing villa. It's a traditional Italian villa in the heart of a lovely town. The local restaurants we tried were delicious and we enjoyed visiting the castle in town.

Tuscany Now and More were amazing to communicate with. Our journey commenced 1 year prior (from Australia) and we had no reasons (ever) for concern. As a group of 8 we had the most amazing experience in Sarteano, Italy. We would love to visit again. Thank you for your prompt communications and for providing such an amazing Tuscan experience. Dear Allegra, On behalf of Frank and our whole family, we can’t thank you enough for sharing your beautiful villa with us! We had such a wonderful time in Sarteano, especially in your gracious home / castle! Besides being incredibly beautiful, it was so comfortable, perfectly located, and had everything we could possibly need or want for our 12 person family (7 adults and 5 children, ranging in age from 6 years -80 years old). And bonus items as the piano, indoor pool (no sunscreen needed!), and ping pong table were much appreciated! We loved every nook and cranny of the many decorated rooms, terrace and garden. Also, it was a wonderful treat to have Maurena cook for us! She made a feast worthy of a wedding! Complete with flowers and ribbons tied to the trellis! The food was delicious and she felt like our own doting Nona cooking for her American family! She was the best! And there was enough food and dessert left over for days to come. We also felt lucky that our visit coincided with the Sarteano Centro Storico festival! So much fun! Especially to walk out the villa doors and be in the midst of all the action made it delightful and easy for us to come and go throughout the festival. The real highlight was having the lovely, charming and knowledgeable Lucia Norrito direct and guide us to so many special nearby places (that we never would have found on our own!). Some of our visits included two trips to working farms, a pasta factory, and an olive oil farm with a professional tasting (all with delicious farm to table lunches). Also, a visit to Radicofani, followed by an outdoor dinner under full moonlight! And, a wine tour and tasting in Montalpuciano was followed by receipt of wine we had shipped to our homes in California and Colorado upon our return. We are sincerely most grateful to Lucia for making our trip extraordinary! One of the children (she’s 12 years old) asked Lucia if she would plan her future wedding in Sarteano, so we might be back in 10+ years, when we hope to stay at your place again! Thank you for a wonderful stay in Sartano. We had an extended family staying in La Fattoria and there was plenty of room for all. We loved being right in town and walked all over Sartano, the castle, the past shop, the park, etc.. We especially appreciated Lucia and Morena who made our stay comfortable and memorable. We gave all fallen in love with Sarteano - from wine tasting truffle hunting, we have met people with great passion and knowledge of the area, this wonderful flamboyant house has been an ideal base. Thanks to Morena's hard work and Lucia's excellent tips that addressed both adult interests and children preferences, we were well looked after.

We are a family of four from the United States with a daughter, 17, and a son, 11, and staying at La Fattoria di Sarteano for a week was the best choice we made for our Italy vacation. The owners and their staff were attentive, responsive and excellent resources for places to eat and things to see and do. Lucia, who lives in Sarteano and speaks flawless English, had great recommendations and was available to help guide us throughout our visit, and Morena, the wonderful housekeeper, looked after us, surprised us with delicious homemade treats and let us practice speaking Italian. The home itself is large, comfortable, beautifully appointed and steeped in history. Perhaps best of all for us was its proximity to town – the front door opens onto the main street in town and is steps away from the main square. We felt completely safe letting our kids walk the town without us. Sarteano itself is wonderful – a small, classic Tuscany hill town but without the usual onslaught of tourists. Its history – a mashup of Etruscan, medieval and Renaissance – and the resulting architecture, including the incredible castle dominating the hilltop, is fascinating. There also seemed to be something exciting going on every day we were there – one highlight was Civitas Infernalis, an annual celebration of the town’s history and homage to its five “contrada” (we were honorary members of San Lorenzo). We, alas, needed to depart before the jazz-blues fest and the annual jousting tournament. The townsfolk were incredibly warm and welcoming, and happily encouraged our attempts at speaking Italian. We seemed to strike the perfect balance of relaxing at the house (talking, reading in the garden, playing ping pong and swimming in the pool) and exploring the town and surrounding countryside. One highlight was visiting the medieval castle at Radicofani, perched 3,000 feet up on a mountain. The restaurant and grill at its base served one of the best meals of our trip. Our visit to Cetona, a small town next to Sarteano, was magical as well. We hope to return to Fattoria di Sarteano, our adopted home in Tuscany, soon.
