At the western extreme of the Chianti Classico region, Sant’Appiano, two minutes from the villa by car, is a lovely hamlet that dates in part to the 10C. Hilltop Barberino Val d’Elsa, 4km/2.5 miles, offers a number of very good restaurants and a selection of shops. The village lies on a beautiful road connecting Florence and Siena, both just over 30 minutes, with views of the Colli Fiorentini on one side, the Val d’Elsa on the other. Two other hill towns, Certaldo and the more famous San Gimignano, are a short distance to the south-west.
