On a winding scenic road just outside the village of Sarteano, 2 km/1.2 mile, and midway between the spa town of Chianciano Terme and the little hilltop village of Chiusi, both 9km/6 miles. The nearest restaurant, La Laterna, is a short walk down the road; the nearest shops and a thermal spa - are in Sarteano. The villa’s location on the regional border makes it a terrific base for explorations. There are literally hundreds of hilltop villages within half an hour’s drive of which the most famous is probably Montepulciano, about 16km/10 miles. Pienza, just a little further, was designed as an urban utopia in the 15th century. On the Umbrian side a visit to Perugia, 1 hour, is not to be missed and a stop at Castiglione del Lago, 30 minutes, on Lake Trasimeno will break the drive nicely.

We first visited five years ago and during the last half of our honeymoon. What a pleasure to be back again with our extended families… and this time with our two young boys! We had an amazing two weeks here. Lots of fun in the pool and on the grounds as the weather was fantastic. A highlight was a dinner made by “The Tuscan Chef” to celebrate our little one’s first birthday. It was always nice to return to the villa after a day of wine tasting or exploring. The Bailey family from London and the South of UK had a wonderful family holiday here which will live in the memories of all of them. We liked Sarteano as a walking town but it is also a good centre from which to visit the wonderful hilltop towns within easy reach. Hard to beat this place as a venue for relaxing and catching up with friends while also enjoying Tuscany and all it offers. The pool, table tennis table, and other facilities were all very popular. What a treat to spend 2 weeks in this lovely Villa! Everything was perfect from the lovely + helpful staff, amazing Chef Doriana + her husband Claudio, spacious comfortable + relaxing environment. A perfect location for touring Montepulciano, Orvieto, Pienza + Maontalcin. We shopped in Sarteano but discovered the Coop in Chianciano. Would be perfect for several families on a large group. Highly recommend!

Our group of 10 originally met 40 years ago ay the University of Michigan (specifically the UMMGC & The Friars). We now live in different areas of the US (MI, WI, DC, GA) and try to get together yearly. Coming here has been a wonderful place to enjoy our time together and the beautiful area of Sarteano. The villa could not have been more perfect. Plenty of luxurious space to visit and enjoy. We especially loved the patio, dining on delicious meals prepared by Doriana and Claudio at the outdoor table and lounging by the pool. The 30 min walk int town was perfect for stretching our legs. In town, Bar Italia (Mauro) was a great local spot and the winery down the road. Le Buche Olivi was a great place to taste some different wines (with good prices to ship home). One of our favorite memories is the local cat. He visited daily and was very affectionate with all of us. Since he often came around to the smell of bacon, we named him Mooch,! The photos were stunning but didn’t prepare us for how amazing of an experience we have had staying here! We hope to come back!

Thank you for the hospitality in this beautiful home! My wife and I have joined our other friends from New York, Massachusetts and New Hampshire, USA. Thank you for allowing us to experience your wonderful villa. The rooms and bathrooms were great, the layout of the house is very convenient, and the outside spaces very comfortable. This was such a fabulous villa it was beautifully maintained and decorated with lots of space for 14 guests both inside and outside in the gorgeous gardens. We had the BEST TIME in such a glorious location with fabulous views.
We had a trip to the nearby vineyard at Le Bushe and had a wonderful meal prepared by Doriana and her husband Claudio which was delicious. We all had the most amazing time and can not recommend villa Podere Casalfava highly enough it is a truly magical place.

What a location - spectacular scenery and wonderful outside space for this villa with its rustic charm. A special mention must go to Doriana the cook (and Claudio) who provided our guest with a wonderful meal each week. Loved visiting Siena and Cortona. We can thoroughly recommend la Gustea in Sarteano for pizzas and Daniela Restaurant in San Casciano dei Bagni, a 30 minute drive away. Good wine tasting to be done at the Buche, 3,5 km down the rough road . Karen and Robert

Amazing! Lovely authentic Italian Villa with multiple rooms and setting areas. Outdoors very lovely. We had Cook Dorianna and she and her husband was perfect. Be used her for 3 nights and a cooking lesson. Also had breakfast each day . She went above and beyond. She shopped for us.
The owner Monica was there to great the first family arriving and at end of week. Lucia was our travel guide and helped us with tours. She also set us up with massages at Villa with Luca. Exceptional place to stay with friends. Enjoy!

The view was spectacular, and outdoor space worked perfectly for a party of 8. The bedrooms were wonderful and the fact that each had it's own bathroom were perfect.
The kitchen being right on the outdoor living room and dining room with a pass through made life very easy. The grounds are kept impeccably manicured. I am not able to come up with enough adjectives to say perfect.

Villa Casalfava is a beautiful retreat. It is special in every way and gives you a real Tuscan feel. The vistas are amazing. The service and care of the owner and her staff is excellent.
We thoroughly enjoyed the outdoor kitchen and cooking experience over an open fire. Frank, the groundskeeper is friendly and helpful keeps the property pristine! A true Tuscan holiday where relaxation and enjoyment cannot be missed.

The villa and its grounds were absolutely lovely. It was lovely to be able to be near Alvaro’s family and that they could enjoy his 80th birthday celebrations. Everything one needed was at the Villa. It certainly exceeded our expectations. Monica was very welcoming when we arrived.

Thank you for making Casalfava such an amazing house. We have made it our home for 5 weeks and have enjoyed every minute of every day. This is such a tasteful place and the grounds are amazing. In many of our outings we looked at other villas around Val d'Orcia and other parts of Tuscany and always concluded that they weren't as beautiful as this. Our prolonged stay allowed us to welcome friends and family from different parts of the world. Together we have collected memorable moments. Sarteano is a lovely town and the people are amazing! We will never forget them.

Suffice to say - our time at Casalfava was extraordinary. Our families have shared a deep but long distance friendship for nearly 30 years. Separated by oceans and time zones for decades... We were fortunate to find a place were we can re-connect, share time, food and laughter (not to mention..vino!) We could think of no better place... of all the places we have reunited over the years... than your beautiful villa.
Doriana's meal was an added bonus and all of the staff were incredibly gracious. Our favourite, of course, was the "Taverna" here at Casalfava, where we grilled, sang, danced, ate 'till our hearts content. With much gratitude, The Hamill - Hands (New York) and the Astrands (Stockholm)

The whole property is just beautiful and well located in a small village but has easy access to motorways to head to so many adjoining villages and cities - Perfect!
The villa is actually more beautiful than the impression given by the photos and the view is excellent, the dinner prepared by Doriana was wonderful, thank you!

Bellissima! From the moment we arrived we were all planning a return visit. The villa is such a wonderful retreat for our 3 families, perfect from the perspective of our 3 year kids and parents alike.
We loved the location, the staff and service have all seemed faultless. The meal prepared by Doriana was delicious and such a treat.

All our questions and there were many, were answered promptly and clearly, right down to the kind of espresso machine in the kitchen. This was our first experience doing something like t his and we found it to be absolutely wonderful.

We enjoyed every minute of our time at Podere Casalfava. The house is wonderful, decorated in chic simplicity, and the hosts made us feel at home.
Our extended stay (5 weeks) allowed us to get to know the beautiful Val D'Orcia and its charming villages quite well. The house is also very well situated for trips to Florence, Siena and the Chianti region.
There are two well known wine appellations nearby and we loved visiting wineries and tasting the Brunello di Montalcino and the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano.
The town of Sarteano is not touristy and the people are extremely nice and welcoming. We loved going to the food shops and farmers market on Fridays. Overall a wonderful experience.

A beautiful property, well located with exquisite views. The villa is well appointed, very comfortable. The outside barbecue room was great as was the game room and the outside seating areas. We have rented several villas throughout Italy over the years, this was by far the nicest.
